Do You Speak Catholic? Revised
The Little Book of Catholic Words – Definitions, Explanations and Illustrations – New Revised Edition
Now highlighting more than 300 words and phrases. Also includes a new section on Catholic Symbols!
Have you ever wondered what an Aspergillum was? Perhaps not! How about a Sacramental? Or do you know the difference between a homily and sermon? As with any major institution or organisation in the world, the Catholic Church uses words that are exclusive to it – call it “jargon”, if you will. These words can be confusing, not only to outsiders but even to “cradle Catholics”. The Church also assigns meanings to everyday words that are completely different to the norm. For example, did you know that there are five different meanings of the word “ordinary” in the Church’s lexicon, but none of them is, well, ordinary?
This little book attempts to overcome that confusion by providing definitions, explanations and as many illustrations as possible for this array of special words.
“This book is a valuable resource for the candidates who are preparing to be received into the Church, for the catechumens, the sponsors and catechists who are involved in the RCIA, for the altar servers, lay ministers — sacristans, proclaimers and communion givers who assist us to worship in truth and in spirit, and for those who are in initial stages of formation and training: postulants, novices and young seminarians.” Bishop Vincent Zungu OFM. Diocese of Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

A comprehensive resource of Catholic Church vocabulary
This book would make a lovely gift for anyone preparing to join the Catholic Church. Also an excellent resource in any sacristy. I particularly liked being able to enlarge the picture when using the e-book.

An open door to querky Catholic terminology
In a mere 100 pages, with delightful images, Frank Nunan has provided a skeleton key to the unique terminology of Catholic life from Aspergillum to Zucchetto in A-to-Z dictionary-type order. Apart from being a must for anyone curious about the Catholic church it should be mandatory for anyone undertaking the RCIA programme, and highly recommended for aspiring candidates for the “Who wants to be a Millionaire” Quiz Show! Herein they will discover that a Humeral has nothing to do with broken bones, and that the Magisterium is unlikely to be found in your local court of law! A light and illuminating read.
